The Italian magazine “Chi” has published a photo of Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI taking a walk with Archbishop Georg Ganswein in the gardens of Castel Gandolfo. It is good to see that Benedict XVI is taking time to rest and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

To commemorate Pope Benedict XVI’s Pontificate, The Vatican released a digital photo album with photos and texts of the former pontiff. The album uses the generic font ‘Comic Sans’, which is usually associated with old-fashioned websites or children’s birthday party invitations. Many designers consider this a ‘cardinal sin’. Is it really that much of a problem?

In a new featurette, director J.J. Abrams talks about the upcoming movie Star Trek Into Darkness. According to Abrams, “the action, the scale of the movie is lightyears beyond what we did in the first movie”. The new footage shows indeed a lot of action (and plenty of his trademark lens flares).

Since Abrams has just been hired to direct the new Star Wars movie, it is going to be very interesting to see if he will choose a different approach for that galaxy far, far away or not. Part of the disappointment over the prequels was fueled by the over-emphasis on action sequences to the detriment of the mythological aspects of the story. Elaborate racing and fighting sequences couldn’t make up for the lack of character development and story depth.

Will Abrams bring back the classic Star Wars we know and love from episodes IV-VI? Or will he do something radically different with the franchise, just like he made a radical new start with Star Trek?

I can’t wait to discover it in 2015!

PS: I am just as much a Trekkie as I am a Star Wars fan, and personally, I am super excited about the high-quality movies we can look forward to for both franchises. About time after the less than stellar movies that preceded them!

I never thought I would see this: pope John Paul II seemingly practicing with a baseball bat! It isn’t the real pope however, but a look-alike. The video was a clever publicity stunt for a sports company. Everybody knows that the real pope John Paul II was mostly into hiking and skiing.

On Tuesday, October 30 2012, Disney announced that it is paying $4.05 billion to buy Lucasfilm Ltd., the production company behind “Star Wars,” from George Lucas. Disney also announced that it would be making a seventh movie in the “Star Wars” series, scheduled for 2015. George Lucas will be “creative consultant” on new “Star Wars” films. “It’s now time for me to pass `Star Wars’ on to a new generation   Read More ...

As you might know, I am a huge Star Wars fan. Somehow, this new Lucasfilm project completely slipped under my radar: Star Wars Detours. According to the official Star Wars website, “Lucasfilm’s newest animated project explores daily life in a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars Detours: the other side of the stars, between the wars.”

Is this a good idea? We have had our share of Star Wars parodies, like the Robot Chicken episodes and the Family Guy spoofs of Star Wars IV, V and VI. Is this animated comedy jumping on the same bandwagon? And will it be successful? Check out the trailer and let me know what you think!
