This week’s community meet-up was packed with lively conversations, inspiring stories, and plenty of laughs. Here’s a look at the highlights:

1. Weathering the Storm: Insights on Resilience

We began by reflecting on the recent storms in Scotland and the unexpected challenges they brought. One member shared how their team’s real-time weather forecasting kept critical systems running, showcasing the power of teamwork and technology under pressure. The takeaway? Resilience is about preparation and staying calm in the eye of the storm.

2. New Year’s Traditions From Around the Globe

The meet-up took a festive turn as we exchanged New Year’s traditions. From jumping at midnight for growth (a Filipino custom) to savoring sticky rice desserts for good luck, it was a fun journey through cultural rituals. A story about a surprise cork incident during a countdown toast had everyone chuckling—and reminded us to open bubbly with care!

3. The Magic of Game Nights

The joys of board games took center stage as we heard about a nostalgic Scooby-Doo-themed game night. Complete with character voices and immersive storytelling, the experience highlighted how simple pleasures can create unforgettable moments. The takeaway? Connection doesn’t have to be complicated—just grab some snacks and your favorite game.

4. Reflections on Rest and Reset

We rounded off with discussions about balancing productivity and rest. A member on a solo retreat in the Smoky Mountains shared how stepping away from daily routines helped him reset mentally and physically. The lesson? Sometimes, taking a step back is the best way to move forward.

If you would like to join me and the rest of the community for a chat, tune in next Wednesday, January 8 at 8 PM CET (2 PM EST, 11 AM PST). You can find the live stream under the 'Meet-up' tab in the Community Forum!

Why Would a Catholic Priest Write a Fantasy Novel?
On January 1, I embarked on the daunting journey of writing my first fantasy novel. I've written a couple of books and essays in the past, but now I’m tackling something I’ve dreamt about ever since I discovered Tolkien's Middle-earth as a teenager.   What if? While traveling through Ireland in October last year, I heard fascinating tales of Irish saints confronting sea monsters, taming dang...
Make 2025 Your Personal Holy Year
"Avanti, Padre, avanti!" As I stood in front of the Holy Door on the right side of St. Peter's Basilica, the security guard's gesture made it clear I had to keep moving. I had paused to snap a photo, but with thousands of pilgrims behind me, I was holding up the line. This was in 2016, during the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy. It was a rare "bonus" Jubilee, as normally, a Jubilee Year only ...
